Who We Are

Building Partnerships USA (BPUSA) is a peer-based, nonprofit organization created to advance labor-community coalitions that increase democratic participation.

Our goal is to build power for working people and the disenfranchised, in their communities and workplaces, through shared agendas for social and economic justice.

Our vision is to help labor-community coalitions influence policy-making on a regional scale by creating leadership networks that can move an integrated agenda for organizing and political advocacy across multiple constituencies and race-class gender divides.

Building Partnerships grew out of the experiences of two successful organizations- SCOPE in LA, and Working Partnerships in San Jose-that unite labor and community groups in lasting regional coalitions, proving that cross-constituency organizing works to secure major progressive wins.

Based on this practical experience,we believe that lasting social change cannot be built upon isolated campaigns or temporary alliances, but must grow out of strong, active and connected networks of leaders who are committed to long-term collaboration.

By bringing together diverse constituencies and identifying their common interests, progressives can create new majorities in their regions, with the power to elevate issues of equity and empowerment to the top of the political agenda.
